Forumula F-03 Fermentation Blend
$11.99 40g pouch
The grain conditioner that keeps koji and tempeh spores fed and breathing.
Formula F-03 is a minimalist, food-focused amendment built for solid-state grain and legume fermentation. Where bulk and wood blends chase heavy flushes, this one has a narrower, more precise job: keep steamed grains and beans loose and oxygenated while giving the culture a fast early boost. The result is cleaner separation, better airflow to the mold, and quicker, more even colonization across the batch.
Two ingredients, no filler — tuned for the koji and tempeh maker who wants consistency from batch to batch.
Why It Works
Solid-state fermentation lives and dies on airflow. When cooked rice or soybeans clump together, the interior grains suffocate and the mold can’t reach them, leading to patchy, uneven growth.
In F-03, calcium sulfate dihydrate works strictly as a clump-breaker. It coats the surface of the wet grains or beans so they separate cleanly, opening up the channels of oxygen the culture needs to spread across every surface.
The small peptide fraction acts as an early booster shot — a hit of accessible nitrogen that accelerates sporulation and speeds up the mycelial knitting that binds the substrate into a firm, well-colonized cake.
Together they do exactly two things well: keep the grains open and get the culture moving fast.
What’s Inside
Ingredient Function Calcium Sulfate Dihydrate Clump-breaker — coats grains for clean separation and oxygen flow Hydrolyzed Plant Peptides & Amino Acids Early booster for rapid sporulation and mycelial knitting
Best For
Application: Solid-state grain and legume fermentation.
Target cultures: Aspergillus oryzae (Koji) and Rhizopus oligosporus (Tempeh).
How to Use
The Golden Ratio
Add F-03 at 1% to 2% of the total dry weight of your raw grains or beans, measured before soaking and steaming. This keeps the dose light and consistent regardless of how much water the batch takes on.
Quick Reference
For a standard kitchen batch of 500g of raw, dry polished rice or dry soybeans, add:
5 g to 10 g of Formula F-03.
Toss it through the cooked, cooled grains or beans so every surface is lightly coated before you introduce your spores or starter.
Handling & Storage
Food-focused blend of inert gypsum and plant-derived peptides. Avoid inhaling fine dust when handling; keep the pouch sealed and dry between uses. As with any fermentation, work clean and follow safe food-handling practices from inoculation through incubation.

Forumula M-01 Alkaline Shield Blend
The contamination-resistant substrate optimizer for monotubs and bulk beds.
Formula M-01 is a precision-balanced dry amendment engineered to give your bulk substrate a head start where it counts most: the vulnerable first days before full colonization. Bulk tubs and beds are never truly sterile, which leaves them exposed to airborne mold spores. Alkaline Shield tackles that head-on by pushing your substrate's starting pH into a defensive zone while feeding a controlled, bioavailable nutrient profile that supports vigorous mycelial growth without inviting spoilage.
Forumula W-02 Gourmet Forest Blend
The high-nitrogen supplement built for wood-lovers and dense, heavy flushes.
Formula W-02 is a nitrogen-forward dry amendment formulated specifically for wood-degrading and forest-variety gourmet fungi. Where alkaline blends fight contamination by raising pH, W-02 takes the opposite approach — it works with the naturally acidic-to-neutral environment these species prefer, then floods the substrate with the organic nitrogen and trace minerals needed to fuel big, weighty harvests.
Built for supplemented hardwood and straw substrates, this blend is tuned for growers chasing yield: fuller flushes, denser fruits, and stronger performance out of every block and bag.
